Aalto University in Finland offers scholarships for international students pursuing English-taught Bachelor's or Master's degrees. These scholarships aim to cover the full cost of tuition for programs in fields such as science and engineering, business and economics, and art and design. Applications for the 2027 academic year have been advertised.
Coverage
The primary scholarship, known as the Excellence Scholarship, is designed to provide full tuition coverage for eligible new students. Tuition fees at Aalto University range from €15,000 to €20,000 per year for Master's programs and €12,000 to €15,000 per year for Bachelor's programs. Receiving the Excellence Scholarship can save a Master's student between €30,000 and €40,000 over a two-year degree. While the scholarship covers tuition, students are responsible for their living expenses, estimated at €800–€1,300 per month (or €9,600–€15,600 per year). Other forms of assistance mentioned include relocation grants and a 25% early-acceptance discount on first-year tuition for Bachelor's students without a waiver.
Eligibility
This scholarship is open to all international students, including Ethiopian citizens. Applicants from countries outside the EU, EEA, and Switzerland are generally required to pay tuition fees but are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Candidates must possess an educational background that qualifies them for admission to similar higher education institutions in their home country. Specific programs may have additional requirements, such as SAT or ACT scores for international high school applicants in business and technology fields, or preliminary assignments and interviews for design and media programs.
Requirements
Applicants are typically required to submit a Completed Application Form, Academic Transcript, Degree Certificate, CV or resume, Valid Passport, Cover letter, Recommendation Letter, Passport-size Photograph, and Other Relevant Supporting Documents. While Business and Science/Technology programs do not explicitly state English proficiency verification as a separate formal requirement, Design and Media programs do. It is generally expected that applicants for English-taught programs demonstrate sufficient English language skills.
How to apply
Applications for the 2027 academic year have been announced but are not yet officially open. Prospective students are advised to use this time to prepare all necessary documentation for scholarship-based admissions. The application process will involve submitting the required documents and fulfilling any program-specific academic or assignment criteria.
Notes
The scholarship is for studies commencing in 2027. Funding arrangements for international joint master’s programs (e.g., CoDaS, CYBERSURE, Re:Play, SELECT, EIT Urban Mobility, EIT Digital) may differ. The scholarship primarily covers tuition fees; living expenses, travel, insurance, and other personal costs are the responsibility of the student.
