Overview

The Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030 (BCDI 2030) program offers high-quality education and training opportunities in Canada, including vocational and technical training. This eight-year program (2022-2030) is funded by Global Affairs Canada. Its main objective is to enhance access to higher education and strengthen social and economic development in 26 eligible partner nations, focusing on priority areas related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Approximately 600 scholars will be supported until 2030.

Coverage

Selected scholars will receive fully supported training and study opportunities in Canada. This includes higher education, vocational, and technical training. The program aims to reduce inequalities and improve the lives of participants and their communities. Scholars will gain skills, knowledge, and experience to evolve in the job market and become agents of change in their home countries. At least 51% of the scholarships are awarded to female applicants.

Eligibility

Ethiopian students are eligible for this program as Ethiopia is one of the 26 BCDI 2030 eligible partner countries. However, individuals cannot apply directly to the BCDI 2030 program. Eligibility is determined through a project partnership established between a Canadian higher education institution (HEI) and an HEI from one of the 26 eligible countries. These partner institutions will launch their own calls for applications and select recipients.

Requirements

Specific admission and selection criteria are unique to each project and are established by the participating Canadian and international partner HEIs. These criteria must align with the BCDI 2030 program terms and conditions and the admission requirements for the specific study programs. Students from qualifying nations must apply through their chosen partner university once a call for applications is issued by that institution.

How to apply

Individual applications are not accepted directly by the BCDI 2030 program. Prospective candidates must apply through the international partner institutions (Canadian HEIs and HEIs from eligible countries) that have formed project partnerships. These partner institutions are responsible for issuing scholarship calls and selecting beneficiaries based on their predetermined criteria. It is recommended to explore the various projects and contact the resource persons identified for each Canadian scholarship project for more information on how to apply.

Notes

The program places a strong emphasis on equity and inclusivity, empowering marginalized groups, with a commitment to awarding at least 51% of scholarships to women. Scholars are expected to return to their native countries to contribute to social and economic development after completing their studies in Canada.
