The program supports researchers focusing on Turkey-related topics, providing an academic environment for independent research. The fellowship duration is 6 to 12 months.

Coverage

This is a fully funded opportunity. Fellows receive a monthly grant of €3,000, a budget for research trips, and coverage for travel costs at the beginning and end of the fellowship. Additional support is provided for fellows who bring their children.

Eligibility

The fellowships are open to post-doctoral researchers, think tank members, and experienced professionals working on Turkey-related issues. Candidates who have not yet completed their PhD but can demonstrate strong Turkey-related research experience and publications are also eligible. Applicants are required to reside in Berlin for the fellowship duration, excluding planned research trips. There are no explicit nationality restrictions, making Ethiopian students eligible.

Requirements

Applicants must submit their documents as a single PDF file, in English or German. Required documents include: a cover letter, a written research proposal (detailing the research/project topic, an overview of the state of research, theoretical and methodological approaches, and a bibliography), a CV (including a list of academic publications), and copies of relevant academic transcripts and/or diplomas.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via email to [email protected]. Applicants should ensure their documents are attached in the specified order.

Notes

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. The program aims to promote high-quality research on various aspects of Turkey, including its political, social, economic, and foreign policy issues, and its role in global affairs. Specific research areas for 2026-2027 include Digitalisation and AI, Critical Raw Materials, Energy Transition and Climate Change, and Turkish Foreign and Security Policy amid Geopolitical Turmoil.
