Overview

The Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) at Charles Darwin University (CDU) provides support for international students to undertake a Master’s by Research or a Doctoral (PhD) degree. These scholarships are awarded based on a competitive process to students demonstrating exceptional research potential.

Coverage

The scholarship provides a tax-free stipend of AU$35,489 per annum (2026 rate) for full-time students. Additional benefits include a relocation allowance of up to $2,500 for international students, as well as paid sick and maternity leave.

Eligibility

Open to international students from all countries, including Ethiopia, provided they meet the academic and research requirements for admission into a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program at CDU.

Requirements

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited HDR course. For a Master’s by research, an undergraduate degree with first or second-class honors is typically required. For a PhD, candidates must demonstrate significant prior research experience, usually through a Master’s degree with a substantial research component or an equivalent qualification.
