Overview

The DAAD Re-Invitation Programme is designed for former international recipients of DAAD scholarships to return to Germany for short-term research or working projects. It is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. The program duration is typically between one and three months.

Coverage

This is a partially funded program. It covers a monthly stipend, travel expenses to and from Germany, and health insurance provided by DAAD. Funding can only be claimed once every three years.

Eligibility

This program is open to citizens of all nations, including Ethiopia. Applicants must be former DAAD scholarship recipients (who received research grants or study scholarships funded by the Federal Foreign Office for over six months) or former GDR scholarship recipients who studied in Germany for at least one year. Applicants must not have lived in Germany for more than three years prior to applying. The study or working project must be coordinated with a partner institution in Germany. Please note that Programme line B, which was for former DAAD EPOS scholarship holders, was discontinued as of December 31, 2025, and no longer accepts applications.

Requirements

Candidates must have an offer or coordination agreement for a research or working project from a state or state-recognized higher education institution, a non-university research institute, or an institution in business, administration, culture, or media in Germany.

How to apply

Applicants must apply online through the DAAD website. You should select your nationality and carefully review the specific application process and required documents in the DAAD scholarship database.

Notes

The program allows for research or working visits at multiple host institutions within Germany. It aims to support various career stages and qualification levels, including graduates, post-doctoral researchers, and faculties.
