Overview

The Houtan Scholarship, offered by The Houtan Scholarship Foundation, supports graduate students globally who demonstrate high academic performance and a strong interest in promoting Iranian culture, heritage, language, and civilization. Coverage

This scholarship provides an award of $3,500 per year towards graduate school education. The award covers both fall and spring semesters and is sent directly to the recipient's graduate institution. This is a partial scholarship.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to graduate students of all nationalities, including Ethiopian students. Applicants must have a working knowledge of Parsi (at least intermediate level) and be able to formally demonstrate an active interest in promoting Persian culture, heritage, language, and civilization. Candidates must be currently attending or have received admission to an accredited graduate school and must have a record of superior academic performance. Financial need will also be considered during the selection process.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted no later than June 1st of the year preceding the award. After an initial review of applications and submitted documents, finalists will be notified by mail or email. Finalists will then be required to complete an interview, either by phone or in person, with Dr. Mina Houtan, the Founder and Chairperson of the Foundation. The final selection of recipients is based on submitted documents, the interview, and financial need. Successful applicants must acknowledge receipt of the award notice and contact the foundation via email within one month to avoid losing the award. The scholarship is awarded to eligible graduate students regardless of their specific field of study, as long as they meet the cultural interest criteria. The Houtan Foundation maintains a strong interest in the achievements of its scholars throughout and beyond the scholarship period.
