Overview

This scholarship, offered by Benesse Corporation and The Asian Students Cultural Association, supports international students pursuing undergraduate, master's, or PhD degrees in Japan. It specifically targets students who actively engage with Japanese institutions through the JAPAN STUDY SUPPORT (JPSS) platform, fostering intellectual connections and providing financial aid.

Coverage

The scholarship provides financial assistance to reduce living and tuition costs. Four successful applicants will each receive a one-time award of 300,000 JPY after enrolling at their designated Japanese university. Recipients are also required to cooperate with JPSS activities, such as speaking at events or advising prospective international students.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to all non-Japanese international students. Applicants must have a registered MY PAGE with JAPAN STUDY SUPPORT (JPSS) and be planning to enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program at a Japanese university in Fall 2025 (September-November) or Spring 2026 (April-May) using the JPSS Scout function. Students enrolled in short-term or Japanese language programs are not eligible. Applicants must be able to conduct interviews in either English or Japanese and must possess a Japanese bank account (not an internet bank) in their name for scholarship fund deposits.

Requirements

Required documents include an online application form (basic information), an essay (up to 800 Japanese characters or 350 English words) explaining your university choice, motivation, and strengths, a self-introduction video (maximum 30 seconds), and an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume.

How to apply

First, visit the JPSS website (jpss.jp) to register and create your MY PAGE. Utilize the JPSS Scout function to receive offers from Japanese universities. Once you have an offer and meet all eligibility criteria, apply directly from your JPSS My Page by submitting the required documents. The selection process involves a first round of document screening, followed by a second round of interviews for shortlisted candidates. Successful applicants will be notified directly.

Notes

The scholarship aims to reduce the financial burden of studying abroad, allowing students to focus on their studies and cultural experiences in Japan.
