Coverage

The scholarship is fully funded. It includes: exemption from the 15,000 yen entrance examination fee, 300,000 yen enrollment fee, and 535,800 yen annual tuition fee. Scholars receive a monthly stipend of 150,000 yen for living expenses and a one-time payment of 150,000 yen for travel and initial living costs (for international applicants living outside Japan). Benefits also include English research writing classes and Japanese language training.

Eligibility

Open to international students worldwide. Applicants must be 35 years old or younger at the time of enrollment and hold a Master’s degree or equivalent (or 18 years of education). Candidates must have an excellent academic record and high English proficiency.

Requirements

Applicants must obtain prior approval from a chosen project supervisor from the SSP Research Project List. Required documents include: completed Pre-Application Request Form, academic transcripts/certificates, English proficiency certificate (TOEFL/IELTS), CV, passport copy, two recommendation letters, research outline, and proof of supervisor permission.

How to apply

1. Select up to two supervisors from the SSP Supervisor List. 2. Submit an Online Pre-Application Request Form to the chosen supervisors. 3. Once permission is granted by a supervisor, complete the formal application documents. 4. Submit all required documents to KUT by post before the deadline.

Notes

It is highly recommended to submit the pre-application request at least 8 weeks before the formal application deadline. The system is unavailable for maintenance on the first Wednesday of every month from 18:00 to 20:00 JST.
