Overview

The Konrad Zuse School of Excellence in Reliable AI (relAI) offers scholarships and an interdisciplinary AI program for exceptional master’s students at TU München (TUM) and LMU Klinikum (LMU) in Germany. This initiative is funded by the Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt, aiming to provide top-notch research-based education in Artificial Intelligence. RelAI is based in Munich and collaborates with leading AI centers and business partners, combining expertise from TUM and LMU.

Coverage

The scholarship provides monthly funding of up to 992 Euros and grants for travel. The support is limited to the recipient’s remaining study time, as per the model study plan. Shorter scholarship durations may be determined by the Selection Committee based on the available budget and the specific study situation and progress of the candidate. If the prerequisites for receiving a scholarship are no longer satisfied, the scholarship will end immediately.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to excellent German and international students. Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree to apply for the Master's Program. Successful candidates must be participating in or applying to master’s programs in artificial intelligence. Specifically, relAI MSc students must be enrolled in an MSc program at TUM or LMU in computer science, mathematics, engineering, natural sciences, or other data science/machine learning/AI-related fields. A genuine interest in working on a topic of reliable AI, covering aspects such as safety, security, privacy, and responsibility within one of relAI’s research areas, is required. Applicants must also be in good physical and mental health.

Requirements

To apply, you will need to submit: * An online application form. * Academic transcripts. * Degree certificates (if a degree is still ongoing, transcripts proving completion by the time you join relAI are acceptable). * Your CV or Resume. * Proof of English language proficiency: level C1 or equivalent (proof that your university degree was taught in English is also acceptable). * A short motivation statement (maximum 1500 characters), highlighting previous relevant experience.

How to apply

Applications for MSc scholarships for students starting in spring or autumn of 2026 are currently open. You must apply via the application portal on the official relAI website. It is essential to apply concurrently to an MSc program at TUM or LMU in computer science, mathematics, engineering, natural sciences, or other data science/machine learning/AI-related fields, as enrollment in such a program is mandatory for relAI MSc students. Scholarship offers will be made subject to your acceptance into one of these university programs.

Notes

The 2026 call for MSc scholarships is open. The deadline for applications is June 15, 2026, at 23:59 AoE (Anywhere on Earth). The 2025 call for PhD positions funded by relAI closed on January 13, 2026, and the next call for PhD positions is expected to open in December 2026. Most master’s application deadlines for TUM and LMU are typically at the end of May.
