The fellowship aims to train participants in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ensure that advancements in AI are beneficial and safe for society, with a particular focus on United States Law and Policy. Fellows will work under mentors, develop research projects tailored to their interests in AI law and policy, and engage with policymakers, researchers, and other leaders in the field.

Coverage

This is a fully funded fellowship. Benefits include a weekly stipend of $2000, coverage for flights to and from the USA, accommodation in the USA, meals, and visa sponsorship for international applicants.

Eligibility

This fellowship is open to applicants from all nationalities, including Ethiopian students. Eligible candidates include graduate law students (e.g., JD or LLM), PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, professionals transitioning into the field of AI law and policy, and legal academics. Applicants are welcome regardless of their prior level of expertise in AI research, but should have an interest in US AI, law, and policy. Diverse backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged.

Requirements

Applicants are required to submit their CV and a completed online application.

How to apply

To apply, you must submit your application and CV online through the official website. Following the initial application, selected candidates will undergo a video interview, which may be followed by a research interview.

Notes

The program supports intellectual and professional development. Past fellows have advanced to roles in the US Department of Commerce, leading AI companies, academia, and think tanks. Applicants are encouraged to apply even if they are unsure of their qualifications. It is recommended to review the United States Law and Policy Workstream of LawAI before applying.
