Overview

The Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships are prestigious awards offered by the University of Melbourne for international and domestic students to pursue Master by Research or PhD (doctoral) degrees. These scholarships are designed to support high-achieving students in conducting advanced research.

Coverage

- Full tuition fee offset for up to 2 years for Master by Research or up to 4 years for PhD candidates. - A living stipend of $39,500 per year (2026 rate) for up to 2 years (Master) or 3.5 years (PhD). - Relocation allowance of $3,000 for international students. - Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) single membership for international students.

Eligibility

- Open to all nationalities, including Ethiopian students. - Must have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a graduate research program at the University of Melbourne. - Must have completed a bachelor’s degree (16 years of education) with at least 75% grades for Master’s programs. - Must have completed a master’s degree (18 years of education) with at least 75% grades for PhD programs. - Must demonstrate research potential.

Requirements

- Academic transcripts. - Curriculum Vitae (CV). - Two academic or professional references. - Research proposal (if required by the specific department). - Proof of English language proficiency (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, PTE) if the previous degree was not taught in English. - Depending on the course, a folio of creative works, GRE/GMAT scores, or writing samples may be required.

How to apply

By applying for a graduate research course at the University of Melbourne before the deadline, you are automatically considered for the scholarship. Currently enrolled students or those deferring their commencement must submit a specific online application form via the official website.
