Overview

The National Taiwan Library (NTL) is offering a fully funded fellowship for international visiting scholars. This program, lasting 3 to 6 months, invites scholars to conduct research at the NTL in Taiwan. The fellowship aims to enhance academic exchange and collaboration by supporting research primarily within the fields of humanities and social sciences, with a specific focus on Taiwan Studies or Southeast Asian Studies. There is no application fee, and IELTS is not required.

Coverage

This is a fully funded fellowship. It includes reimbursement for a round-trip economy air ticket, with a maximum of NTD 35,000 for scholars from Asia and NTD 60,000 for scholars from other regions (including Africa). Awardees will also receive a monthly stipend: NTD 60,000 for PhD holders and NTD 40,000 for non-PhD applicants. Fellows will have access to the library's extensive academic resources and research facilities.

Eligibility

This fellowship is open to all nationalities, making Ethiopian students eligible. Applicants must satisfy one of the following criteria: be a professor, lecturer, or academic staff at a foreign university; a postdoctoral researcher; a PhD holder or doctoral candidate; or library or research staff at an academic institution. Recommended candidates from partner institutions are also eligible. However, applicants currently studying or working in Taiwan are not eligible. Research projects must fall within humanities and social sciences, specifically Taiwan Studies or Southeast Asian Studies.

Requirements

Applicants must submit the following documents online: an Application Form, a Curriculum Vitae, a Research Proposal, a Recommendation Letter (in PDF format), and a Letter of Approval. Incomplete submissions will result in disqualification.

The application process is exclusively online; paper applications will not be accepted. Notes

The fellowship duration is generally 3 to 6 months and cannot span across different calendar years or be deferred to the following year. The list of awardees will be published on the Library's and the Taiwan Studies Research Center's websites by the end of April 2026. Awardees must register between June 1, 2026, and June 30, 2026. In principle, 1 to 3 primary award positions are available, with up to 2 alternate positions, though the actual number may be adjusted based on funds and evaluation results.
