Overview

The National Taiwan Library Fellowship 2026 is a fully funded international research opportunity in Taiwan. It invites scholars from around the world to conduct research for a duration of 3 to 6 months at the National Taiwan Library (NTL), the oldest public library in Taiwan. The fellowship aims to promote academic research, international collaboration, and cultural exchange, focusing on topics related to Taiwan Studies or Southeast Asian Studies within the humanities and social sciences.

Coverage

This is a fully funded fellowship. It provides financial support including round-trip airfare reimbursement (up to NTD 35,000 for participants from Asia and up to NTD 60,000 for applicants from other regions). Fellows will also receive a monthly stipend of NTD 60,000 for PhD holders and NTD 40,000 for non-PhD applicants to cover living expenses. Participants will gain full access to the extensive academic resources and research facilities of the National Taiwan Library, along with opportunities to collaborate with researchers and expand their academic network.

Eligibility

This fellowship is open to applicants of all nationalities. Eligible candidates include professors, lecturers, or academic staff at foreign universities, postdoctoral researchers, PhD holders, and doctoral candidates. Library or research staff at academic institutions are also eligible, as are recommended candidates from partner institutions. Applicants must not currently be studying or working in Taiwan. Candidates must have research interests in humanities, social sciences, Taiwan Studies, or Southeast Asian Studies.

Requirements

Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents online: a completed Application Form, a Curriculum Vitae (CV) including a list of academic publications and experience, a well-structured Research Proposal, a Recommendation Letter (to be sent directly by the referee via email), and a Letter of Approval from their institution or employer.

How to apply

The application process is exclusively online. First, complete the online application form carefully with accurate information. Upload your CV along with a list of your academic publications and experience. Submit a well-structured research proposal according to academic standards. Ensure your referee sends the recommendation letter via email before the deadline. Attach the letter of approval from your institution or employer. Review your entire application carefully to avoid any mistakes before submitting it through the official platform by the deadline.

Notes

The application period runs from the announcement date until April 20, 2026. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted. The results will be announced on the Library's and Taiwan Studies Research Center's websites by the end of April 2026. Awardees registration will be accepted from June 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026. The fellowship duration is generally 3 to 6 months and cannot span across years or be deferred to the following year. The number of primary award positions typically ranges from 1 to 3, with up to 2 alternate positions, subject to adjustment based on funds and evaluation.
