Overview

The NextGen ICANN88 Program 2027 in Portugal is a fully funded opportunity designed for students interested in shaping the future of the global internet and engaging with the ICANN ecosystem. The program includes guidance from three experienced mentors and requires participants to deliver a 10-minute presentation on ICANN-related topics. Its goal is to increase awareness and encourage participation of young people in internet governance.

Coverage

This is a fully funded program. It covers all travel expenses, provides accommodation, and includes a stipend of approximately $500 to cover individual daily expenses such as meals, transport to and from the airport, and other incidentals. There is no participation fee.

Eligibility

Applicants must be currently enrolled as undergraduate, graduate (masters), or doctoral students. They must be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of the ICANN meeting. Applicants must be currently living and studying in the region of their respective ICANN meeting (Lisbon, Portugal). A strong interest in Internet Governance, the future of the Internet, and other topics covered at ICANN meetings is required. Participants must be able to attend the ICANN meeting and all associated required events.

Requirements

Required documents include an academic transcript, a valid passport, travel documents as required by your home country, and any necessary visa or transit visa.

How to apply

To apply, first sign up or log in to your ICANN Account. Then, select the NextGen Application option. Complete and save your Applicant Profile. A new option will then appear to begin your application; click on “Get Started.” Fill out the application form completely and submit it. You will receive a confirmation email from [email protected] upon successful submission.

Notes

The program will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from March 13-18, 2026. Participants are required to attend courses and presentations for six weeks prior to the ICANN Public Meeting. A total of 12 candidates will be selected for this edition of the program.
