Overview

The Pulitzer Center AI Accountability Fellowships support journalists worldwide to conduct in-depth investigative reporting on the real-world impacts of artificial intelligence. The program focuses on how governments and corporations use AI in areas such as policing, healthcare, welfare, hiring, and surveillance.

Coverage

Fellows receive up to $25,000 (up to $20,000 for reporting and $5,000 for engagement activities). The fellowship includes mentorship, training, and support for data analysis, travel, and public records requests over a 10-month period.

Eligibility

Open to journalists from any country. The program encourages applications from the Global South and underrepresented communities.

Requirements

Applicants must be staff or freelance journalists with strong investigative experience. You must submit a clear reporting project proposal, a budget, an engagement/impact plan, a statement of purpose, three published story samples, a CV, and three professional references. If applicable, a letter of commitment from a media organization is required.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the official Pulitzer Center Submittable portal. You must create an account, complete the application form, and upload all required documents in English.

Notes

Projects should focus on AI accountability and demonstrate a clear plan for reaching strategic audiences. Teams may apply, but must nominate one lead fellow.
