Overview

The Richmond Undergraduate Scholarships, also known as the Richmond Scholars Program, are offered by the University of Richmond in the USA. These scholarships are open to both US and international students pursuing an undergraduate degree. It is considered one of the most prominent merit awards at the university.

Coverage

The scholarship provides full undergraduate tuition coverage, university housing, and an eligible university meal plan. It also includes participation in a small community of interdisciplinary scholars, academic, leadership, and professional development opportunities, faculty mentorship, committed programming, and access to enrichment grant options for qualified faculty-mentored activities. However, it does not specifically cover costs such as travel, US student visa fees, health insurance, books, or personal expenses.

Eligibility

This scholarship is for academically exceptional students who demonstrate leadership, purpose, and significant community involvement. The University of Richmond does not publish a minimum GPA for admission; instead, a comprehensive and competitive process is used for assessment. While good grades are important, the selection committee also considers activities, recommendations, the Richmond additional response, and future objectives to understand potential contributions outside the classroom. Ethiopian students are eligible as international students.

Requirements

Applicants must submit a Common Application or Coalition Application, a valid passport, the University of Richmond supplemental response (known as the Richmond Question), secondary-school transcripts covering grades 9–11, a school report, and at least one recommendation from a school official.

How to apply

International students are automatically considered for the Richmond Scholars Program when they submit their full admission application to the University of Richmond by the stated deadline. There is no need to submit a separate scholarship application specifically for this scholarship.

Notes

While often referred to as a full-ride scholarship due to covering major costs like tuition, housing, and meals, applicants should plan for other expenses such as travel, visa fees, health insurance, books, and personal costs, as these are not covered by the award.
