Overview

The S2AQUA Research Scholarship 2026 is a paid research grant for bachelor graduates to work on the 'MultiAlive' project, which focuses on detecting toxic algal blooms and predicting contamination in offshore bivalve aquaculture. The position is based at the Pilot Fish Farming Station in Olhão, Portugal.

Coverage

Selected candidates receive a monthly maintenance allowance of €1,090.98 for 8 months of full-time research (40 hours per week). It also includes personal accident insurance.

Eligibility

Open to bachelor graduates in Marine Biology, Marine Sciences, Biotechnology, or related fields. Applicants must be enrolled in a master's, integrated master's, doctoral, or non-degree program at a Portuguese higher education institution. While open to non-EU citizens, applicants must already reside in Portugal permanently and habitually at the time of application.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in relevant fields, have experience in biological sampling, phytoplankton identification, and marine biotoxin analysis (HPLC/LC-MS/MS), and possess an advanced level of English. Candidates must not have previously held a research fellowship in companies financed by FCT.
