Overview

The SBW Berlin International Scholarship supports talented young students from developing countries who are committed to social projects. The program aims to help students gain skills in Berlin or Potsdam, Germany, which they will later use to improve living conditions in their home countries through non-profit work.

Coverage

The scholarship is fully funded and covers tuition fees, shared accommodation, and a monthly living allowance. Travel allowances may be provided in some cases.

Eligibility

Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old, hold a university entrance qualification, and be citizens of countries in need of development support (including Ethiopia). Applicants must not have resided in Germany for more than 18 months prior to the application and must hold or be eligible for a student visa.

Requirements

Applicants must provide a CV, letter of motivation (max 2 pages), two letters of recommendation (specifically regarding social/non-profit experience), proof of low net income, academic transcripts, and evidence of admission to a university in Berlin or Potsdam. Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to return to their home country to work in the non-profit sector for at least 18 months after graduation.

How to apply

Applications are submitted via the official SBW Berlin online portal. Applicants must first secure admission to a university in Berlin or Potsdam independently, as this is a separate process from the scholarship application.

Notes

There is no fixed annual deadline; applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. A total of 20 scholarships are awarded annually.
