The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP) is a fully funded scholarship opportunity for international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists. Established in 2005 and financed by the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic, the program supports international mobility for study, research, teaching, and artistic stays at higher education institutions and research organizations in Slovakia.
Coverage
This is a fully funded scholarship covering living expenses and potentially travel. Scholarship recipients will receive a monthly stipend:
- Students: 620 EUR per month.
- PhD students: 1025.50 EUR per month.
- University teachers, researchers, and artists: Up to 1470 EUR per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
Eligible students and PhD students may also receive a travel grant ranging from 50 EUR to 1500 EUR, depending on the travel distance. Additionally, scholarship holders may receive reimbursement for medical examination costs up to 250 EUR if required for temporary residence permits.
The duration of the scholarship stay is:
- Students: 1–2 full semesters or 1–3 full trimesters.
- PhD Students: 1–10 months.
- University Teachers, Researchers, and Artists: 1–10 months.
Eligibility
This scholarship is open to international applicants from all countries worldwide, with the sole exception of citizens of Slovakia. Ethiopian students are eligible to apply.
Applicants must meet specific criteria based on their category:
- **Students (Category A)**: Must be Master’s students or have completed at least 2.5 years of university studies outside Slovakia. They must receive an acceptance letter from a Slovak higher education institution for academic mobility. This category does not apply to doctoral (PhD) studies.
- **PhD Students (Category B)**: Must be pursuing higher education or scientific training outside Slovakia and be accepted by a public, private, or state higher education institution or a research institution in Slovakia for an academic mobility stay (study/research/artistic).
- **University Teachers, Researchers, and Artists (Category C)**: Must be invited to a teaching, research, or artistic stay in Slovakia by an eligible institution. Applicants in this category usually require a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification.
Previous recipients of NSP scholarships can reapply only after a minimum period of two years. Applicants must not be receiving another scholarship funded by Slovak public resources during the same stay.
Requirements
Applicants are required to submit the following documents:
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Motivation Letter.
- Detailed Study, Research, or Teaching Program.
- Recommendation Letters.
- Confirmation of Studies or PhD Status.
- Academic Transcripts and Diplomas.
- Acceptance or Invitation Letter from a Slovak Institution.
- List of Publications or Artistic Activities (if applicable).
- Valid Passport or Identification Documents.
- Any other supporting documents required by the program.
All documents must be submitted in Slovak or English language.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online through the official NSP portal. Applicants should carefully fill out the online application form and upload scanned copies of all required documents. It is crucial to ensure all information and documents are accurate and complete. Students and PhD applicants have the option to apply for a travel grant during the online application process. The original acceptance or invitation letter from the Slovak institution must also be delivered to SAIA in Bratislava by the specified deadline. Incomplete applications will not be processed. It is advisable to submit applications well before the deadline to avoid any technical issues, as the portal typically opens at least six weeks prior. The selection committee, appointed by the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic, evaluates applications based on academic quality, research plans, motivation, achievements, recommendation letters, and the overall quality of the application.
