Overview

The Farm Residency Program 2027 in Australia is an artist-in-residence program for visual artists. Its objective is to assist artists in producing audacious and reflective art inspired by the environment, ecology, culture, and contemporary concerns. The program will take place in Western Australia for eight weeks, between February and November 2027. It is open to both Australian and international visual artists.

Coverage

This is a fully funded program. Financial benefits include an artist fee of 15,000 AUD to cover living and project-related costs, accommodation and studio facilities on site at The Farm Margaret River, and coverage of travel expenses to and from Margaret River. It also provides professional documentation of the residency and developed work, research and practical support, mentoring, introductions to local networks and arts organizations, an opportunity to present the project for additional funding, and a community engagement event.

Eligibility

The program is open to individual visual artists from any nationality, including Ethiopian students. Applicants must be over eighteen years old. Candidates should demonstrate significant creative abilities, a robust and consistent professional practice, and a desire to produce meaningful work that connects with the natural world, farming, local culture, or the environment. Proficiency in autonomous work within a self-directed residency context is required, along with a willingness to work responsively with the site, environment, and land. A valid driver’s license is strongly recommended due to limited transport options in the region.

Requirements

Applicants are expected to submit an original idea or project proposal as part of their application. They must demonstrate a strong creative practice and the ability to work independently. A valid driver's license is recommended.

How to apply

To apply, candidates should visit the official residency page (thefarmmargaretriver.com.au/residency), carefully review the qualifications and current calls for residency, and then submit their application along with their original project idea. The application process is online.

Notes

There is no application fee for this program. The residency is located on a rural property in the south west of Western Australia, known as Wadandi Country.
