Overview

The UNDP Internship 2027 in USA is a paid international internship opportunity offered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Washington Representation Office. It is designed for graduate-level students interested in gaining professional experience with a leading UN agency. Internships are available for General Interns and Communications & Outreach Interns. The duration is typically three to six months, taking place in Washington D.C., USA.

Coverage

This is a fully-funded internship. Interns receive a monthly stipend to cover expenses, with the amount varying by location and pro-rated for part-time arrangements. There is no application fee.

Eligibility

Open to students from around the world, including Ethiopian students. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate-level degree program in fields such as communications, economics, public administration, business administration, or environmental studies. Interns must be able to return to their studies upon completion of the internship. Essential requirements include strong communication and organizational skills, and fluency in both written and spoken English. Applicants should be able to commit to working for at least three consecutive months (minimum 24 hours/three days weekly), with a maximum internship length of six months. Respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and UNDP Statement of Purpose is also required.

Requirements

Applicants must submit a comprehensive application package consisting of: a Curriculum Vitae (CV), a Cover Letter, a completed and signed UNDP application form (available for download), and one Reference Letter. All application materials, including the reference letter, must be submitted directly by the applicant.

How to apply

The entire application process is online via email. Applicants must email all four required documents (CV, Cover Letter, signed UNDP application form, and Reference Letter) to both [email protected] and [email protected]. The subject line of the email must clearly state the internship period and the applicant's full name, for example: "Internship Application – Spring Internship – [Full Name]" or "Internship Application – Fall Internship – [Full Name]". It is crucial to clearly indicate the specific internship period for which you are applying.

Notes

This is a highly competitive internship program. Incomplete, partial, or late applications will not be considered. Due to the high volume of applications, only short-listed candidates will be contacted by the UNDP Washington Representation Office. Please note that the office does not offer a Summer internship program; interested applicants should check for Fall and Spring opportunities. The deadline for Spring 2027 internships is January 15, 2027, and for Fall 2027 internships is June 15, 2027.
