Overview

UNDP is offering a 4-week online course titled "Responsible Digital Transformation: Impact Assessments for AI & Data Governance". This course is designed for public-sector professionals, policymakers, and practitioners to learn how to translate responsible AI principles into practical application. It focuses on applying impact assessment tools to real governance decisions involving AI, digital public infrastructure, and data-driven public services, building on UNDP’s Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) methodology. Participants will develop a draft impact assessment and mitigation plan for a real-world digital or AI governance use case.

Coverage

The course is fully funded, meaning it is free for selected participants. This is made possible with the generous support of the Global Gateway strategy of the European Union. No other financial benefits, such as stipends or travel allowances, are mentioned.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to individuals with a basic understanding of digital systems and AI. Ideally, applicants should have two or more years of experience in digital policy/transformation, ICT, or governance, particularly in dealing with various governance frameworks for digital systems. Those with a strong interest in applying practical risk assessment tools are highly encouraged to apply. Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant field or possess a minimum of three years of experience in the aforementioned areas if they do not have a university degree. A fluent level of English is mandatory. Government officials and policymakers from developing countries, especially women, are particularly encouraged to apply. As Ethiopia is a developing country, Ethiopian students and professionals are eligible.

Requirements

To be considered, applicants must demonstrate a fluent level of English. They are required to complete an application questionnaire, provide a motivation letter, and attach an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV). An undergraduate degree in a relevant field or at least three years of professional experience in digital policy/transformation, ICT, or governance is a prerequisite.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online through the official application portal. You will need to complete the application questionnaire, write a motivation letter explaining your interest and suitability for the course, and upload your most recent CV. The selection process will be conducted by the course organizers, who will evaluate applicants based on their fulfillment of the entry requirements, the quality of their application questionnaire, and their motivation.

Notes

The course duration is 4 weeks. Upon completion, participants will have developed a practical draft impact assessment and mitigation plan tailored to a digital or AI governance use case relevant to their professional context.
