University of Milan Regional Scholarship 2026/27 in Italy

The University of Milan Regional Scholarship (DSU) is a financial aid program for Italian and international students, including those from Ethiopia. It is based on financial need and academic merit, and is funded by the Lombardy Region and the Italian Ministry of University and Research. The scholarship provides a financial grant, tuition fee exemptions, and free meals to support students pursuing higher education at the University of Milan.

Scholarship recipients may receive a cash grant ranging from €2,143 to €8,248, which includes a meal quota. Winners are entitled to a full exemption from university tuition fees, while partial winners receive a 50% exemption. Additionally, one free midday meal is provided from Monday to Saturday at university refectories. An International Mobility Allowance of €600 per month for up to 10 months is available for students participating in University-certified study abroad programs, along with travel reimbursements (up to €100 for European countries, up to €500 for non-European countries) and compensation for meals not received during the study abroad period. A graduation incentive award may also be provided for eligible students who complete their degree within the standard duration.

This scholarship is open to Italian and international students who are applying for or are already enrolled in a full-time Bachelor's, Master's, Single-Cycle Master's, Doctoral Research, or Postgraduate School program at the University of Milan. Applicants must meet the academic merit and financial requirements specified in the official call. International students, including those from Ethiopia, whose family income and assets are outside Italy are welcome to apply but must submit specific financial documents for assessment. Students are generally not eligible if they already hold an Italian academic qualification at the same or a higher level, are receiving a similar scholarship for the same academic year, are enrolled on a part-time basis, are repeating a program year, are enrolled on a shortened degree program, are medical students with a specialist training contract, or are Doctoral research students already receiving a scholarship or research fellowship.

To be considered, applicants must: 1. Apply for admission to an eligible full-time Bachelor's, Master's, Single-Cycle Master's, Doctoral Research, or Postgraduate program at the University of Milan. New international students must follow the University's admission procedures and receive an official offer of admission or be actively enrolled. 2. Meet the academic merit and financial requirements as outlined in the official scholarship call. 3. For international students, gather family income and asset certificates from their home country. These documents must be properly legalised and translated (if required) for the University to assess financial eligibility. 4. Submit all required documents by the specified deadline.

1. Apply for admission to an eligible full-time program at the University of Milan. Ensure you receive an official offer of admission or are actively enrolled. 2. Prepare your financial documents. For international students, this involves obtaining family income and asset certificates from your home country, ensuring they are legalised and translated if necessary. 3. Access the Online Helpdesk (Benefits Service Desk) via studente.unimi.it/dirittoallostudio. Prospective students need to be registered on the UniMi portal. 4. Complete the online Regional Scholarship application form, filling in all required information accurately. 5. Upload all necessary supporting documents, including your admission letter, identity papers, and financial documentation, before the application deadline. 6. Review your application carefully and submit it through the Online Helpdesk. 7. After the application period closes, check the provisional ranking list (generally available by the end of October) and the final ranking list (published by the end of November) on the Online Service Desk. Appeals can be submitted within 7 days of the provisional ranking publication if you believe there is an error in your evaluation.

The scholarship application process is separate from the university admission application. Both must be completed by their respective deadlines. First-year students must achieve a required number of credits by a specified deadline to maintain their scholarship benefit. Scholarship payments are made on the “Carta La Statale”, which needs to be activated as a Flash Up Studio La Statale prepaid card.
