The University of Otago in New Zealand offers Doctoral and Master’s Research Scholarships for domestic and international students. These scholarships support postgraduate students undertaking research in various fields of expertise at New Zealand's first university, known for its research and teaching excellence.

Coverage

For Doctoral Scholarships, recipients receive an annual stipend of NZ$34,128 and a tuition fee waiver for up to 36 months (3 years). For professional doctorate students, the tuition fee waiver is capped at the domestic rate. Master’s Scholarship recipients receive an NZ$18,204 stipend and a tuition fee waiver for 1 year. The scholarships provide funding for research, exposure to advanced research methods, and an opportunity to conduct research in an international environment.

Eligibility

These scholarships are open to all domestic and international students, including those from Ethiopia. Applicants for doctoral scholarships should typically be seeking their first doctoral qualification. For Master's degrees, applicants should have completed a Master’s degree with papers and a thesis of at least 0.75 EFTS, or have relevant advanced-level papers. If prior qualifications were completed at another university, the GPA score will be calculated based on relevant papers and grades from academic transcripts.

Requirements

Applicants' potential for research and their research record will be considered. A recommendation and ranking from the relevant Head of Department are required. International applicants may need to provide academic credential evaluation documents if requested.

Students must apply through the University of Otago's official website. You should complete the application for admission to your chosen qualification. Fill in all required information carefully and review your application before submission. It is recommended to apply for the scholarship concurrently with your admission application. After submitting your admission application, an invitation to apply for the scholarship will be sent to your eVision portal.
