The University of Sheffield offers the AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award (DLA) for PhD researchers in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in the UK. This is a fully funded scholarship supporting four full PhD studentships annually, with one specifically for international candidates. The program aims to foster pioneering disciplinary and interdisciplinary research.

Coverage

The scholarship is fully funded, covering full tuition fees (Home or International, as applicable) for 3.5 years. Recipients will also receive a maintenance stipend at the UKRI rate, which is currently £21,805 for the 2026/27 academic year.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to international applicants, including Ethiopian students, who wish to pursue a PhD in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Candidates must not already be enrolled in a PhD program. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English.

Requirements

Required documents include a CV/Resume, Academic Transcript, Degree Certificates, an English language certificate, a Research proposal or supporting statement, a Personal statement, and Academic or Professional reference letters.

How to apply

The application process has two main steps. First, you must apply for admission to a PhD program at the University of Sheffield through their online application portal. The deadline for the study application is December 14, 2026. Once you have submitted your study application and received an application number, you must then submit a separate funding application via the online form, entering your study application number. The deadline for the funding application is February 19, 2027.

Notes

This is a highly competitive opportunity, especially for the single international slot. The program duration is 3.5 years. Eligible fields of study within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities include English, History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities, Languages, Arts and Societies, and Law. Selected scholars will participate in cohort training and other research-related activities.
