Overview

The University of Toronto OISE Scholarships provide financial support to eligible graduate students pursuing Master's (MA) and PhD degrees at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) in Canada. This funding aims to reduce the financial burden of graduate studies.

Coverage

For the 2026–2027 academic year, eligible PhD students can receive a funding package worth CAD $40,000. Eligible first-year MA students can receive at least CAD $26,892.39. These packages include tuition and incidental fees. Additionally, eligible international students receive support for the mandatory University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). The funding package may combine various sources such as fellowships, grants, awards, scholarships, and paid academic work (e.g., Research Assistantships, Teaching Assistantships).

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to eligible full-time PhD students and students in eligible non-professional MA programs at OISE. International students, including those from Ethiopia, are eligible. Applicants must meet the academic and admission requirements of their chosen OISE graduate program. PhD students may receive funding for their first four years, while MA students generally receive funding for the first year. Flexible-time PhD students do not qualify for the standard funding package.

Requirements

To be considered for this funding, applicants must apply to and be admitted into an eligible OISE graduate program. They must meet all academic and admission criteria for their chosen program. If eligible for Graduate Assistantship (GA) or Teaching Assistantship (TA) positions, students are required to apply for these by stipulated deadlines and accept any offer of employment as part of their funding package. Required documents for program admission typically include academic transcripts and degree certificates.

How to apply

There is no separate application process for the OISE funding package. Students who are eligible for the funding package will automatically be considered upon receiving an offer of admission to an eligible OISE graduate program. A letter detailing the approximate minimum level of funding will be provided along with the offer of admission.

Notes

The exact amount and conditions of the funding package depend on the student’s specific program and funding arrangement. Students are advised to check their program requirements and the official funding terms for complete details. Some funded students may be required to apply for external scholarships in later years to maintain their funding.
