The DAAD GROW (Global Research Opportunities for the South) Scholarship 2026 is a fully funded program for early-career researchers, scientists, and academics from developing countries, including Ethiopia. It supports short research stays (2-6 months) and preparatory/cooperation visits (1-2 months) in Germany at top universities and research institutes. The scholarship aims to promote research collaboration, enhance scientific skills, and build international networks, with a focus on projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Coverage
This is a fully funded scholarship. Benefits include:
* Monthly stipends: 1,400 Euros for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers; 2,000 Euros for assistant professors and lecturers; 2,150 Euros for full professors.
* Travel allowance.
* Health, accident, and personal liability insurance.
* Additional support may be available for applicants with disabilities or chronic illnesses under certain circumstances.
Eligibility
* Nationality: Applicants must be from countries listed in the OECD DAC regions, which includes Sub-Saharan Africa (Ethiopia is eligible), Latin America, and Asia.
* Academic Status: Open to graduates, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, assistant professors, lecturers, or full professors.
* Age: There is no fixed age limit.
* Research Focus: Research projects must align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and address global challenges such as education, health, climate change, governance, and innovation.

The program has two main funding lines:
* Programme Line 1: Preparatory and Cooperation Visits (1-2 months) – Supports short visits to develop joint research ideas, publications, and international collaborations with German institutions.
* Programme Line 2: Research Stays (2-6 months) – Supports independent research projects with strong development relevance and a clear plan to implement results in the home country.
