Overview

The EC Blue Book Traineeship is a prestigious 5-month paid internship program offered twice a year by the European Commission. It provides approximately 1,000 positions for individuals from around the world, including non-EU nationals, to gain hands-on experience in EU policymaking and administration. The upcoming intake is for March 2027, running from March 1 to July 31, 2027. Trainees work in a multicultural environment, developing professional skills and gaining insights into the operations of EU institutions, primarily in Brussels and Luxembourg.

Coverage

This is a fully funded traineeship. Selected trainees receive a monthly living allowance of approximately €1,538 to cover living expenses. Additionally, the program covers reimbursement of travel expenses to and from the traineeship location, support for visa-related costs where applicable, and reimbursement of medical fees. The exact allowance may vary slightly depending on the specific location (Brussels vs. Luxembourg).

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must be either EU citizens or non-EU nationals (limited positions are available for non-EU nationals in specific EU departments). Candidates must have completed a standard 3-year higher education degree (equivalent to at least a Bachelor's level, EQF level 6) or be graduates of vocational education and training (VET). Proficiency in at least two official EU languages is required, with one of these languages being English, French, or German (the Commission's working languages). There is no age limit, and extensive prior professional experience is not necessary. Language proficiency is assessed through the application process; IELTS or TOEFL scores are not required.

Requirements

Applicants will need to prepare the following documents: - A valid ID card or passport. - University qualifications, such as a degree certificate or equivalent. - Proof of language skills, which can include certificates or other documentation demonstrating proficiency in at least two EU languages. - Proof of relevant experience, such as participation in university exchange programs, EU/international programs, seminars, or workshops, if applicable.

How to apply

Follow these steps to apply for the EC Blue Book Traineeship 2027: 1. **Check Eligibility**: Confirm that you meet all nationality, education, and language requirements. 2. **Prepare Your Documents**: Gather all necessary supporting documents as listed above. 3. **Create an EU Login Account**: Go to the official EU Login page and either create a new account or log in with an existing one. 4. **Complete the Online Application**: Access the Blue Book Traineeship application portal, fill in all required information carefully, and upload your supporting documents. 5. **Review and Submit**: Carefully review your entire application before submitting it. Ensure it is submitted before the deadline.

Notes

The traineeship offers two main types: Administrative Traineeship (ADMIN) for general administrative tasks and Translation Traineeship (DGT) for translating documents into the trainee's native language from at least two official EU languages. The primary work locations are Brussels, Belgium, and Luxembourg, with some positions potentially available in other European cities. This program is considered a significant career launchpad, offering opportunities to build professional skills and a global network.
