Overview

The Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programme in Human Rights Policy and Practice (EMHRPP) is a prestigious, fully funded 24-month joint master’s degree program. Students rotate through four different European universities, experiencing diverse academic cultures and legal systems while earning a single master's degree.

Coverage

The scholarship is highly comprehensive, covering: full tuition fees (up to €18,000 for international students), a monthly living allowance of €1,000, travel grants for flights and visa costs, and full health insurance for the 24-month duration. The total value is estimated between €40,000 and €50,000+.

Eligibility

Open to international students, including those from Ethiopia. Applicants must hold a recognized bachelor’s degree (equivalent to 180 ECTS) and possess at least two years of documented practitioner experience in the human rights field (employment, internships, or voluntary work).

Requirements

Applicants must provide an official transcript in English, a structured motivation letter, a CV, and two letters of recommendation. Proficiency in English is mandatory (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent as specified by the University of Gothenburg).

How to apply

Applications are managed by the University of Gothenburg. Candidates must follow the official application checklist provided on the program website. The selection process is based on a 100-point ranking system covering academic competence, motivation, and professional experience.

Notes

Applications are expected to open in October 2026 for the 2027 intake. The program is designed for professionals rather than fresh graduates without experience.
