Overview

The Flight PS752 Commemorative Scholarship Program is a Canadian initiative launched by Global Affairs Canada to honor the victims of the Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 tragedy. It provides scholarships to both Canadian and international students who are currently studying at colleges and universities in Canada. The program aims to distribute 176 scholarships over five years, starting from the 2023–2024 academic year, with each scholarship averaging CAD 25,000 for one academic year. This scholarship supports academic excellence, innovation, and research, particularly in fields related to the victims' backgrounds or air disaster prevention.

Coverage

This is a partially funded scholarship, with an average award of CAD 25,000 per academic year. The scholarship covers various expenses, including tuition fees for one academic year, travel costs to or within Canada (including return airfare), health insurance expenses, living costs (such as accommodation, food, utilities, and public transportation), and expenses for books and required study supplies. The scholarship funds are non-taxable for recipients.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria: * Be currently enrolled at a post-secondary institution in Canada. * Be enrolled for the next two academic terms. * Have completed at least one full academic year in their current diploma or degree program before the application deadline. Students who completed another diploma or degree program in Canada immediately before starting their current program may also apply. * Have at least one academic year remaining in their current degree or diploma program. * Not be participating in another scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada. * Canadian applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. * International applicants (including Ethiopian students) must hold a valid Canadian Study Permit. * Applicants should have a field of study connected to the academic or professional backgrounds of the PS752 victims or related to air disaster prevention. Fields of study can range from business administration to engineering to health sciences. * Eligible students may reapply for the scholarship for an additional year.

Requirements

Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents: * Proof of identity documents: Canadian applicants need a passport, ID card, or driver’s license issued by a Canadian province or territory, and proof of status if not a citizen. International applicants must provide a copy of their passport and a valid Canadian Study Permit. * All documents must clearly show the same citizenship as stated in the application form. * For documents in languages other than English or French, official translations must be provided. * Applicants who are next of kin of a Flight PS752 victim should provide certification or a signed family relationship statement; a notarized statement may also be required.
