Overview

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), formerly known as KGSP, is a fully funded program by the Korean government for international students to pursue graduate studies in South Korea. It aims to promote international exchange and academic cooperation.

Coverage

The scholarship is fully funded, covering tuition fees, living expenses, and round-trip airfare.

Eligibility

Applicants must be citizens of a country that has a partnership agreement with Korea for the GKS program. Ethiopian students are generally eligible. Applicants and their parents must not hold Korean citizenship. Applicants must be under the age of 40 (or 45 for specific cases) and hold a bachelor's or master's degree by July 31, 2026.

Requirements

Applicants must submit official academic transcripts and graduation certificates authenticated via Apostille or consular confirmation. Language proficiency (TOPIK or English scores) is often required. Specific GPA requirements apply (minimum 80% or top 20% of class). Recommendation letters and a study plan are mandatory.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted through either the Embassy Track (via the Korean Embassy in Ethiopia) or the University Track (directly to a Korean university). Applications sent directly to NIIED are not accepted.

Notes

Deadlines vary by embassy and university. Applicants must check the official Study in Korea website for specific guidelines and university-specific requirements.
