Coverage

Non-EU Master's students receive a monthly stipend of €934 plus individual allowances. PhD students receive a monthly stipend of €1,200 plus a €100 monthly mobility allowance. Health insurance and other allowances may be provided.

Eligibility

Applicants must be international students who have completed their first degree abroad and intend to pursue a Master's or PhD in Germany. Priority is given to applicants from DAC countries who are not currently residing in Germany.

Requirements

Applicants must provide academic certificates, proof of enrollment (if applicable), a certified copy of their first-degree certificate, a German language proficiency certificate (minimum DSH 2 or Level B2), a third-party reference regarding social commitment, and an expert recommendation letter from a university lecturer.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the official online portal on the Heinrich Böll Foundation website. Candidates should review the specific information sheets for graduate and PhD students before applying.

Notes

Deadlines occur twice annually. The foundation is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Foreign Office.
