Overview

HENNGE's Global Internship Program (GIP) is an on-site software engineering training program held at their headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. It is designed for students and early-career engineers to strengthen their skills in a global, English-speaking environment. No Japanese language skills are required. The internship lasts 4 to 6 weeks and focuses on gaining hands-on experience in software development, cloud platforms, and IT services. Interns work with experienced Cloud Product Development engineers and a dedicated mentor.

Coverage

While the program itself is unpaid, comprehensive subsidies are provided. These include round-trip airfare, a monthly subsidy, medical insurance (for non-Japan residents), Japanese mobile data, pre-arrival support, visa guidance, networking luncheons, monthly technical sessions, office facilities, refreshments, staff parties, and access to Japanese cultural events.

Eligibility

This internship is open to both national and international students, including Ethiopian citizens. Applicants must be in their third year of undergraduate study or higher (including master’s and doctoral students), or be recent graduates. A degree in Computer Science or a related field is required, or equivalent experience from a tech internship or bootcamp. Applicants must be fluent in English (no Japanese language skills are required). Comfort using Linux, MacOS, or Unix-like environments is essential. A passion for open-source projects or tech community activities is preferred. Pathway-specific skills are required: for the Full Stack Pathway, proficiency in Python or Go; for the Front-End Pathway, proficiency in React or Vue with TypeScript. Interest in building a career in Japan is also preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include experience with cloud computing platforms (especially AWS), knowledge of distributed systems, experience with DevOps tools and practices (CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code), and familiarity with container technologies such as Docker.

Requirements

Required documents include a CV and cover letter, submitted after completing a coding challenge.

How to apply

To apply, register through the official apply button and verify your email address. Next, complete a coding challenge. Submit your work along with your CV and cover letter. If your submission is successful, you will be contacted for a phone screening, followed by a final online interview. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as they are received. Positions are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, so early application is strongly encouraged.

Notes

The program runs for 4-6 weeks, Monday to Friday, from 10 AM to 7 PM JST. High-performing interns may receive a full-time job offer at HENNGE. Multiple internship batches are available each year, and applicants can select their preferred dates when applying. If you are interested in applying for both the Front-End and Full-Stack pathways, you must submit separate applications using different email addresses for the coding challenge. Interns cannot change pathways midway through the program.
