Overview

The ICANN Fellowship Program is designed to enable individuals from diverse and often underrepresented backgrounds to actively participate in discussions about Internet governance and policy. It aims to strengthen the representation of the multistakeholder model within the ICANN community. Fellows receive training, mentorship, and firsthand experience with ICANN's international decision-making processes, including attending an ICANN Public Meeting. The specific ICANN88 Fellowship Program in 2027 is scheduled to take place in Portugal.

Coverage

This is a fully-funded fellowship. Eligibility

* Open to applicants from all countries and regions, including Ethiopia. * Candidates must be at least 21 years old. * Applicants must demonstrate an interest in DNS (Domain Name System), Internet governance, and policy. * Candidates must not be currently participating in another ICANN-backed project.

Requirements

Selected fellows are expected to: * Actively participate in all program activities, including online preparatory sessions, webinars, and meetings. * Attend all required sessions at the ICANN Public Meeting. * Engage effectively with their assigned mentor. * Complete the required ICANN Take courses. * Contribute to ICANN policy development processes and the Fellowship alumni network upon completion of the program.

Notes

The program specifically seeks to improve representation from underserved and underprivileged communities. Returning fellows may be considered for the Tarek Kamel Fellowship Recognition. Additionally, a selected fellow from the African region with a technical background may be considered for the Paul Muchene Fellow Award, which honors a former ICANN Fellowship participant and staff member. If an ICANN meeting is held virtually, the Fellowship Program will also be conducted virtually.
