Funding fully funded Overview
The Japan Youth Summit 2027 is a four-day international youth event scheduled for 10-13 May 2027 in Osaka, Japan. Organized by Youth Break the Boundaries (YBB), it combines an innovation project competition, an international symposium, and collaboration in multicultural teams. The summit's 2027 theme is "Youth Innovation for a World Without Limits." Participants will work on ideas linked to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as education, infrastructure, sustainable communities, responsible consumption, or climate action, focusing on developing practical youth-led projects.
Coverage
There are two participation routes: a competitive fully funded scheme and a self-funded scheme. For selected fully funded delegates, the program fee is covered. This includes hotel accommodation during the summit, scheduled meals (dinner on Day 1; breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Days 2 and 3; breakfast on Day 4), local transportation for program activities, airport transfers at designated sessions at Kansai International Airport on the first and last program days, a seminar kit, a participation certificate, pre-orientation, and project mentoring. Visa costs and personal expenses are excluded for all participants. International flights are expressly excluded from the self-funded program fee, and airfare coverage for funded delegates is not clearly promised, so applicants should seek written confirmation. The self-funded program costs USD 910, payable in two installments (USD 510 and USD 400), plus a USD 15 registration charge. The fully funded route has a USD 10 registration charge.
Eligibility
This opportunity is open to young people aged 15-40 from all nationalities and academic backgrounds. There is no minimum GPA, specific university enrollment requirement, or mandatory work experience stated. Applicants must not have criminal convictions or be affiliated with extremist organizations. While no IELTS or TOEFL test certificate is required, the fully funded essay must be written in English. Parents or guardians accompanying participants under 18 can register in a separate guardian category, covering the complete program fee.
Requirements
Applicants need an active personal email address, a photo or identification document as requested by the portal, and a completed submission form. For the fully funded route, an English essay of no more than 800 words is required, along with completing mandatory campaign-sharing steps (e.g., official twibbon). Self-funded applicants do not need the essay or social-sharing tasks but must provide payment evidence. The project competition focuses on five Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Applicants must choose one SDG for their essay and project direction, explaining a future challenge, proposing a realistic youth-led project with specific actions, measurable impact, and discussing its long-term sustainability.
How to apply
1. Check the official Japan Youth Summit website for the 2027 listing and choose your preferred route (fully funded or self-funded).
2. Create an account using your full name, an active personal email address, and a secure password, then sign in.
3. Fill in the personal, professional, entry, and miscellaneous sections of the submission form.
4. For fully funded applicants, upload your English essay, select your SDG focus, and complete the mandatory campaign-sharing requirements.
5. Review the application preview carefully to ensure all details are correct.
6. Pay the applicable registration fee (USD 10 for fully funded, USD 15 for self-funded) and the program fee if applying for the self-funded route. Provide payment proof where requested.
7. Submit the final form. Note that payment alone does not complete registration.
8. If shortlisted for the fully funded route, follow instructions for essay review, declaration submission, and interview assessment.
Notes
This is a non-degree youth program and does not lead to a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral qualification. Registration is scheduled to begin on 5 October 2026. The deadline for fully funded applications is 20 December 2026, while self-funded registration closes on 10 April 2027. Applicants should confirm all details, fees, and schedules on the official organizer's website before applying or making payments, as information can change. An invitation letter confirms initial application review but does not guarantee funding; final funding decisions depend on essay quality and interview results. Visa arrangements are the participant's responsibility; an invitation or support document does not guarantee visa approval. Funded applicants requesting visa support before the interview stage must pay the first program installment, which is only reimbursed if selected as a fully funded delegate.
