The KAS Scholarship Program in Germany is offered by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V. (KAS) for international students pursuing Master's and Doctoral degrees, and for Bachelor's students already enrolled in Germany. The program aims to support talented individuals who are socially engaged and committed to democratic values, human rights, and social responsibility. It provides both financial assistance and professional development opportunities, including networking, seminars, and personalized mentoring.
Coverage
This is a fully-funded scholarship. Master’s students receive up to €992 per month for up to two years. Doctoral candidates receive up to €1,400 per month for up to three years. Scholars can also apply for additional allowances, including a health insurance subsidy (up to €120 per month), a family allowance (€276), a child allowance (€250 per child), and research travel grants abroad. A partial reimbursement of university tuition fees is also provided. Participants will benefit from an international network, diverse workshops and seminars, and personal support and guidance throughout their studies and career planning.
Eligibility
This scholarship is open to international students from selected countries, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Tanzania. Applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance and social engagement. A minimum B2 level of German language proficiency, proven by a Goethe-Institut certificate or equivalent, is mandatory. Master’s applicants must intend to enroll in a four-semester MA program at a German university. Bachelor’s applicants must have successfully completed at least two semesters of a BA program at a German university. Applicants should show interest in political and social issues and demonstrate leadership potential.
Requirements
To apply, you will need to submit a completed application form, academic transcripts and certificates, proof of German language proficiency (minimum B2 level), a Curriculum Vitae (CV/Resume), a motivation letter, letters of recommendation, a passport copy or identification document, and a research proposal for doctoral applicants (if applicable).

Notes
The scholarship is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. Regional selection interviews for 2026 will be conducted in cooperation with KAS foreign offices, including the KAS office in Nairobi for applicants from Kenya, Uganda/South Sudan, Tanzania, and Ethiopia in May 2026. Further information regarding these interviews will be provided.
