Overview

The Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship is a six-month residential fellowship in Singapore. It offers an exciting opportunity for researchers, scholars, and historians interested in conducting research on historical materials related to Singapore and Southeast Asia. The program is hosted by the National Library Board (NLB), Singapore, and is open to doctoral, postdoctoral students, and those engaged in advanced research.

Coverage

This is a fully funded fellowship. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of S$3,500 to cover living expenses, local transportation, and photocopying. International fellows will also be provided with a one-time relocation allowance of S$1,500. Airfare, up to S$1,500, and a monthly accommodation allowance, up to S$3,500, will be reimbursed. Participants will have free access to the library’s collections, a dedicated space in the library with a computer, and internet access.

Eligibility

The fellowship is open to both national and international applicants, including students enrolled in doctoral, postdoctoral, or advanced research programs. Applicants must possess experience in their chosen fields of research and demonstrate scholarly and research credentials. Requirements

Applicants must submit a completed application form, a Curriculum Vitae (CV), a detailed research proposal, a copy of their passport, two academic references, educational credentials (transcripts and diplomas), and any other relevant supporting documents.

You will need to mention the title of your research proposal, provide your personal information, academic qualifications, awards, scholarships, employment or professional experience, and contact details for two referees. A 200-word abstract of your research proposal is required, along with an explanation of your project schedule, detailing key milestones or tasks for each of the six months. You must also include details of your nominated subject reviewer. Notes

Incomplete and late submissions will not be accepted. Fellows are expected to reside in Singapore at the library for the duration of the program to maximize their research time and utilize the library's resources effectively. Library staff will be available to recommend resources from the collections.
