Overview

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), offers 30 fully-funded graduate study opportunities for the 2027–2028 academic year. This program supports a traditional, in-person, two-year master’s degree experience at ASU’s Tempe campus in Arizona, United States, focusing on technology and innovation.

Coverage

This is a fully-funded scholarship covering full tuition, required books, student fees, on-campus housing, and comprehensive medical support. It also includes visa application processing costs, an English language proficiency test voucher (if required), an ASU graduate application fee waiver, and airfare to and from Phoenix, Arizona. Beyond financial support, scholars receive leadership development, mentorship, community engagement, and professional development opportunities.

Eligibility

Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution by August 2027; higher education diplomas or certificates are not considered equivalent. A strong academic record, equivalent to a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, is required. Applicants must meet ASU’s English language proficiency requirements for graduate admission. Candidates must be citizens of an African country and be between 18 and 33 years old on or before the application deadline. A demonstrated record of leadership, service, and commitment to creating positive change in their communities is essential. Applicants must not have previously enrolled in or completed a graduate or master’s degree program, nor should they be enrolled in another graduate program while applying for this scholarship. Successful candidates must be able to relocate to and reside on ASU’s campus in Tempe, Arizona, USA, for the entire duration of the program.

Requirements

To be considered, applicants need a bachelor's degree by August 2027, a strong academic record (minimum 3.5 GPA), and proof of English language proficiency. They must be African citizens aged 18-33, demonstrate leadership and community commitment, and not hold a prior master's degree or be enrolled in another graduate program. Relocation to ASU's Tempe campus is mandatory.
