Overview

The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) offers research fellowships to non-Japanese researchers to conduct research in Japan. The program aims to promote international academic exchange and foster goodwill through scientific cooperation.

Coverage

The fellowship provides a monthly allowance of 220,000 JPY for living and research expenses, a one-time 120,000 JPY initial cost allowance, round-trip economy class airfare, and overseas travel insurance. The duration is three to six months.

Eligibility

Applicants must be non-Japanese nationals, hold a Ph.D. degree, be 49 years old or younger at the time of application, and have sufficient language ability to conduct research.

Requirements

Applicants must secure an invitation letter from a host institution in Japan prior to applying. Required documents include the official application form, a research plan, a CV with a list of publications, a recommendation letter, and academic certificates/diplomas.

Notes

There are 10 awards available. The fellowship does not support accompanying family members and cannot be extended.
