Overview

This is a fully funded three-month research fellowship, known as the Max Planck Doucet Scholarship, offered by the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in Germany. Its primary goal is to provide young researchers from outside Frankfurt with access to the institute's significant Doucet Collection, which focuses on the history of colonial law in Hispanic-America. The fellowship is scheduled to run from January 5 to March 31, 2027.

Coverage

This is a fully-funded scholarship. It covers a living stipend, travel costs to and from Germany, and housing fees. There is no application fee, and all associated costs are reimbursed.

Eligibility

Ethiopian students are eligible to apply as this scholarship is open to all international students and candidates from all nations. Applicants must be young researchers living outside of Frankfurt, Germany. While there is a significant preference for candidates from Latin America, this does not exclude other nationalities. Your research proposal must specifically focus on the history of colonial law and clearly state your intention to utilize the Doucet Collection.

Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a Project Description, a Motivation Letter, and a CV or Resume. Applications must be submitted in either English or Spanish.

How to apply

Candidates must apply online through the official website of the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory. Ensure all required documents are prepared and submitted electronically by the deadline.

Notes

The fellowship is designed for early-career scholars and runs for three months, from January 5 to March 31, 2027. The Doucet Collection is a specialized library focusing on the history of derecho indiano (colonial law in the Hispanic-American sphere).
