Overview

The NL Scholarship (formerly Holland Scholarship) is a partial scholarship funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and participating Dutch higher education institutions. It is designed for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the Netherlands.

Coverage

The scholarship provides a one-time grant of €5,000 for the first year of study. It is not a full-tuition scholarship and does not cover all living expenses.

Eligibility

Applicants must be citizens of a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Ethiopian students are eligible. You must not hold a degree from any educational institution in the Netherlands.

Requirements

You must apply for and secure admission to a full-time bachelor’s or master’s program at a participating Dutch research university or university of applied sciences. You must also meet the specific English language and academic requirements set by your chosen institution.

How to apply

1. Choose a participating Dutch university from the official list on the Study in NL website. 2. Apply for admission to your chosen program at that university. 3. Follow the specific scholarship application instructions provided on the official website of your chosen university, as each institution manages its own selection process and deadlines.

Notes

Applications for the 2026-2027 academic year opened on 1 November 2025. Deadlines vary by institution; you must check the official website of your chosen university for their specific closing date.
