The National Scholarship Program (NSP) in Slovakia is a fully funded scholarship opportunity for international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists. It is financed by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic. The program supports academic mobility for study, research, or artistic stays at higher education institutions and research organizations across Slovakia.
Coverage
The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support including a monthly stipend, health insurance, and a travel allowance. The specific amounts are:
- Monthly Stipend for University Students: 650 €
- Monthly Stipend for PhD Students: 1025.50 €
- Monthly Stipend for University Teachers/Researchers/Artists (without PhD, less than 4 years experience): 734 €
- Monthly Stipend for University Teachers/Researchers/Artists (with PhD, less than 10 years experience): 980 €
- Monthly Stipend for University Teachers/Researchers/Artists (with PhD, more than 10 years experience): 1,050 €
A travel allowance is also provided, varying based on the distance from your home country to Slovakia:
- Up to 200 km: 0 €
- 200 km to 300 km: 50 €
- 300 km to 500 km: 100 €
- 500 km to 1,000 km: 250 €
- 1,000 km to 2,000 km: 350 €
- 2,000 km to 3,000 km: 500 €
- 3,000 km to 5,000 km: 750 €
- 5,000 km to 7,000 km: 1,100 €
- More than 7,000 km: 1,500 €
The duration of the scholarship stay for students is typically 1 to 2 full semesters (4-5 or 9-10 months) or 1 to 3 trimesters (3-4, 6-7, or 9-10 months).
Eligibility
This program is open to international applicants from all over the world, including Ethiopian students. Eligibility is categorized as follows:
- Students (Category A): Must be enrolled in a university outside Slovakia, have completed at least 2.5 years of their current study program, and be accepted for an academic mobility stay in Slovakia. This category does not apply to doctoral (PhD) studies.
- PhD Students (Category B): Must be enrolled in a doctoral program outside Slovakia and accepted by a public, private, or state higher education institution or a research institution in Slovakia for an academic mobility stay to study, conduct research, or an artistic stay.
- University Teachers, Researchers, and Artists (Category C): Must be invited for a teaching, research, or artistic stay in Slovakia by an institution with a valid certificate of eligibility to carry out research and development.
Scholarship recipients are selected based on their academic record, the quality of their research proposal (for research scholarships), language proficiency, and the relevance of their proposed project to Slovakia.
Requirements
