The Stanford Fisher Family Summer Fellows Program is an annual three-week professional training program for mid-career professionals. It is hosted by Stanford University's Center on Democracy, Development and Rule of Law (CDDRL) in the USA. The program, running from July 18 to August 6, 2027, aims to enhance skills and knowledge in democracy, good governance, and sustainable development.
Coverage
This is a partially funded fellowship. Stanford University will provide accommodation, meals, and local transportation for the entire program duration. A limited travel fund is available for participants who cannot afford airfare or require partial travel subsidies. However, fellows should be prepared to cover their round-trip airfare, though they may seek support from employers or fundraise after selection.
Eligibility
The fellowship is open to mid-career professionals (at least 28 years old by July 2027, with a minimum of 10-12 years of professional experience) who are actively engaged in promoting democracy, development, and the rule of law. Applicants must be from and currently reside in a country where democracy is not well entrenched, playing influential roles in their country's political, social, or economic progress. Candidates from the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and European Union member states are not eligible, with rare exceptions for those residing outside their home country due to conflict. A strong command of spoken and written English is essential. While most participants hold a bachelor's degree, it is not mandatory. Candidates currently enrolled in full-time university degree programs are not eligible.
Requirements
Applicants must submit a resume, responses to essay questions, academic and career information, a video submission, at least two references/letters of recommendation, financial information, and personal certification. Proof of English language proficiency is also required. All application materials must be in English.
How to apply
The application process is online via Slideroom. Applicants must create an online account, carefully fill out the application form, and submit all required documents before the deadline. It is crucial to review all responses before submission, as changes cannot be made afterward.
Notes
The program takes place from July 18 to August 6, 2027. Applicants must commit to participating for the entire three-week duration and attend all activities. Applicants will be informed about their selection in April 2027. The deadline for applications is January 12, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).
