Funding partial Overview
The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) is offered by the University of Twente in Enschede, Netherlands. This scholarship is designed for excellent international students from non-EU/EEA countries who wish to pursue a Master's (MSc) degree program at the university. Up to fifty scholarships are awarded annually.
Coverage
The scholarship provides funding ranging from €3,000 to €22,000 for one year. For students enrolled in a two-year Master's program, an additional UTS scholarship of the same amount may be awarded for the second year, provided they achieve an average grade of 7 out of 10 and complete at least 50% of their European Credits by the end of the third quartile of the first year. The UTS is a partial scholarship meant to compensate for study-related costs; students decide how to spend the funds, but tuition fees are not paid on their behalf. An additional Kipaji scholarship, offering up to €12,000, is available for UTS recipients applying for specific programs starting in September 2027, subject to its own eligibility conditions.
Eligibility
This scholarship is open to international students from non-EU/EEA countries, making Ethiopian students eligible. Applicants must have obtained an academic admission letter from the University of Twente and secured provisional acceptance into one of the eligible UT Master's programs starting in September 2027. Candidates must have a student number and must not have previously graduated from a University of Twente undergraduate or graduate program. They must meet all visa requirements for entry into the Netherlands and fulfill the university's English language proficiency requirements. Specifically, an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in the speaking section) or a TOEFL iBT score of 90 (with at least 20 in the speaking section) is required. Applicants must be ineligible for a Dutch study loan and must rank among the top 5% to 10% of their graduating class at their home university. Dutch nationals, current University of Twente students, and students applying for Master's programs at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), pre-master programs, or those who pay statutory tuition fees are not eligible.
Requirements
Applicants need an academic admission letter from the University of Twente, provisional acceptance into an eligible Master's program, a student number, and proof of meeting Dutch visa requirements. English language proficiency must be demonstrated with an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 (6.0 speaking) or TOEFL iBT 90 (20 speaking). Evidence of ranking in the top 5% to 10% of their graduating class is also required.
