Overview

The WHO Internship Programme offers students and recent graduates worldwide an opportunity to gain practical experience with the World Health Organization. Interns work on projects supporting global public health, as well as in areas like communications, administration, human resources, management, and external relations. Opportunities are available at WHO Headquarters, regional offices, and country offices globally.

Coverage

Financial support for interns varies based on the internship location and individual eligibility. This may include a living allowance, medical and accident insurance, and lunch vouchers at some duty stations. Travel support may be provided for eligible interns from least developed and middle-income countries. However, accommodation and visa costs are the responsibility of the selected intern.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must: * Be at least 20 years old on the date of application. * Be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program, or have completed such a qualification within the last 18 months. * Have completed a minimum of three years of full-time university study (bachelor's level or equivalent) before the internship begins. * Possess an academic background relevant to WHO’s work, such as public health, medicine, social sciences, management, administration, communications, or external relations. * Be fluent in at least one working language required by the specific duty station. * Hold a valid passport from a WHO Member State (Ethiopia is a Member State). * Not have previously participated in the WHO Internship Programme. * Not be an immediate family member of a WHO staff member.

Requirements

Applicants will typically need to provide: * Proof of current enrollment in a university program or a diploma/certificate if recently graduated. * Academic transcripts demonstrating completion of at least three years of full-time university study. * A valid passport. * A detailed curriculum vitae (CV) or resume. * A motivation letter tailored to the specific internship position.

How to apply

1. Visit the official WHO Careers website (https://www.who.int/careers/internship-programme). 2. Search for an internship vacancy that matches your academic background and interests. 3. Create an account in the WHO Stellis recruitment system. 4. Complete your online profile, providing details on your education, language skills, and other required information. 5. Upload all necessary documents as specified in the internship vacancy. 6. Write a motivation letter specifically for the internship position you are applying for. 7. Carefully review your application and submit it before the stated deadline for that specific vacancy. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by WHO for further selection stages.

Notes

WHO internships are full-time and typically last between 6 and 24 consecutive weeks. Internship vacancies are posted throughout the year, and each position has its own specific application deadline. The level of financial support, including living allowance, depends on the duty station and the specific internship. WHO does not provide accommodation for interns, and visa costs are the responsibility of the selected intern. An internship certificate can be requested upon successful completion of the program. Completing an internship does not guarantee future employment with WHO.
