The DAAD GROW (Global Research Opportunities for the South) Scholarship in Germany is a fully funded opportunity for early career researchers, scientists, and academics from developing countries. It supports short research stays in Germany, lasting 2-6 months, or preparatory and cooperation visits of 1-2 months. The program aims to facilitate development-related research projects, establish international scientific collaborations, and enhance scholars' skills and networks. Participants are expected to apply their gained knowledge at their home institutions in research, teaching, and institutional development.
Coverage
This scholarship is fully funded and provides comprehensive financial support. Scholars receive a monthly stipend based on their academic status: Doctoral and postdoctoral candidates get 1,400 Euros per month; Assistant Professors and Lecturers receive 2,000 Euros per month; and Full Professors receive 2,150 Euros per month. The program also covers health, accident, and personal liability insurance. A lump sum travel allowance is provided. Additional benefits may be available for applicants with disabilities or chronic illnesses.
Eligibility
Applicants must be citizens of countries on the OECD DAC list, with a primary focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Ethiopia is eligible as it is in Sub-Saharan Africa and on the OECD DAC list. Eligible academic levels include doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, university teachers, assistant professors, lecturers, and full professors. There is no fixed age limit. Candidates must also meet any additional requirements specific to their chosen subject area.
Requirements
Required documents for the application include:
- Letter of motivation.
- Project proposal.
- Letter of recommendation.
- Proof of language proficiency (German and English, as required by the specific program).
- Any other additional documents that may be requested.
