Coverage

This program focuses on mobility finance, covering the cost of travel between France and Germany, daily stipends for research stays (approximately €150 per day for French researchers and €89–€130 per day for German participants), and limited round-trip travel support (up to €450 depending on origin). It provides a modest but highly targeted award, with an average annual financing of €6,000 per project over a two-year period, intended to enable repeated short-term visits.

Eligibility

This program is open to researchers, including PhD-level participants and postdoctoral candidates, who are affiliated with universities or other accredited research institutions in Germany and France. Businesses may also participate if they have a formal partnership with an academic institution. All scientific disciplines are eligible for funding. Importantly, this is not a personal application; proposals must be submitted jointly by a French and a German research team. It is not suited for undergraduates, independent master’s candidates, or individuals not affiliated with a research institution, nor for candidates without an existing partner in France or Germany.

Requirements

Successful applications typically demonstrate strong scientific value, well-defined research objectives, and active participation of young researchers (PhD/postdoc level). Projects should show the possibility of expanding into more extensive EU or bilateral funding initiatives. Projects that lack innovation and merely build on existing partnerships are less likely to be prioritized.

Applicants must apply online. A French and German research team must submit their proposals together, using their respective national platforms. The application process requires a joint effort from both partner institutions.

Notes

The Procope Program (known as Project-Based Personnel Exchange - PPP in Germany and Hubert Curien Partnership - PHC in France) runs for two years, during which short-term exchanges between France and Germany take place repeatedly.
