Overview

The ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowship (ETH Fellows) is a prestigious, fully funded program designed to support incoming postdoctoral researchers who demonstrate exceptional scientific talent. It aims to foster academic independence and prepare early-career scientists for future professorships.

Coverage

The fellowship provides a competitive salary based on ETH Zurich standards and an additional research allowance of CHF 12,000 per year to cover expenses such as travel and mobility. The duration of the fellowship is 2 years.

Eligibility

Open to international candidates, including Ethiopian researchers, provided they meet the following criteria: they must hold a PhD (or be within 6 months of completion) obtained within the last two years. Applicants must not have earned their PhD from ETH Zurich or the University of Zurich. Additionally, applicants must not have resided or worked in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the three years prior to the deadline, and must not have spent more than 6 months at ETH Zurich or the University of Zurich in the last three years.

Requirements

Applicants must secure the support of an ETH Zurich professor to act as a mentor. The candidate and mentor should not have had significant prior collaboration. Candidates must have at least one peer-reviewed scientific publication or an award for their doctoral thesis. Required documents include a CV, research project description, motivation letter, host professor's CV, invitation letter from the host, and two reference letters.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted jointly by the candidate and the host professor via the ETH Zurich eResearch system. Reference letters must be emailed directly to the Grants Office by the referees at least 10 days before the deadline.

Notes

Priority is given to applicants who propose their own research projects. Each professor can endorse only one candidate per evaluation period.
