Overview

The European Parliament Schuman Traineeships are 5-month paid professional development programs designed for young professionals. They offer practical work experience within one of Europe's most important institutions. Trainees can work in various parliamentary committees and policy areas, gaining insights into EU policies and decision-making.

Coverage

This is a fully-funded paid traineeship. Each selected applicant will receive a monthly stipend. The program offers real work experience, the chance to work on real projects and daily tasks, and an understanding of how EU policies and decisions are made. Participants work in a multicultural and international environment, which helps in building strong professional connections. Exposure to different global regions and policy areas is provided, potentially opening doors to future careers in international organizations. There is no application fee, and an English language test (like IELTS) is not required.

Eligibility

Applicants must be 18 years or older. While most positions are for EU citizens, a very limited number of spots are available for nationals from other countries, including Ethiopia. Candidates must hold a full university degree (EQF level 6) or, for a limited number of traineeships, a vocational education qualification obtained within the EU (EQF levels 3, 4 or 5). Good knowledge of one EU language is required, and a basic understanding of another language such as English, French, or German is preferred. Applicants must provide an eligible criminal record certificate. Previous work or traineeship experience in an EU institution, body, or agency should not exceed two months. Additionally, applicants must not have carried out a study visit at the Secretariat of the European Parliament six months prior to the beginning of the traineeship.

Requirements

To apply, you will need: - A completed university degree (EQF level 6) or an EU vocational qualification (EQF levels 3, 4 or 5). - Good knowledge of one EU language, with a preference for basic understanding of English, French, or German. - A valid criminal record certificate. - Your CV in Europass format. - A short motivation letter for the position you are applying for.

How to apply

1. Visit the official traineeship website and explore the available positions. Take your time to choose a role that matches your interest and background. 2. Create an account by providing your basic personal details. 3. Log in to your account and start your application. 4. Upload your CV in Europass format and write a short, focused motivation letter for the position you are applying for. 5. You can apply for a maximum of three traineeship offers per campaign. Applying for more than three will lead to disqualification. 6. Review everything carefully before submitting, as changes are not allowed after submission. 7. Submit your application before the deadline.

Notes

The traineeship has two intakes: March–July and October–February. The application deadline for the October–February traineeship is 31 May. The application deadline for the March–July traineeship is 31 October. All deadlines are 23:59 Brussels time. The application process does not require an application fee or an English language test.
