Overview

The FAO Internship Program is a learning opportunity offered by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. It aims to attract talented young women and men, including current students and recent graduates, who are motivated to share new perspectives and innovative ideas. The program provides practical work experience in fields related to FAO's mandate, such as food, agriculture, and forestry, helping interns gain a better understanding of FAO's mission and its contribution to UN Sustainable Development Goals. The duration of an internship assignment typically ranges from 3 to 11 months.

Coverage

This is a fully funded internship program. Selected interns will receive a monthly stipend of approximately $700. Additionally, the program provides medical protection to the applicants.

Eligibility

Ethiopian students are eligible to apply as Ethiopia is a member nation of the FAO. Candidates must be between 21 and 30 years old at the start of their internship. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a recognized educational institution, or be recent graduates. A working knowledge of at least one official FAO language (Arabic, English, Chinese, Spanish, French, or Russian) is required; knowledge of a second official language is considered an asset. Candidates should possess good communication and computer skills and be adaptable to an international multicultural environment. They must also have appropriate residence or immigration status in the country of assignment prior to the start of the internship.

Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a letter of motivation, explaining their interest in the FAO internship program and mentioning any prior work experience with the organization if applicable. Evidence of enrollment in a recent undergraduate or graduate degree program, or proof of recent graduation, must be provided. A language proficiency certificate is also mandatory. Any additional supporting documents deemed necessary should be included in the application form.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online through the FAO career portal. Interested candidates should look for the "Call for Expression of Interest" specifically for the Internship Programme on the official website. The application process involves submitting your motivation letter and evidence of university attendance. Only selected candidates will be contacted. If you are not selected before a specific closing date and wish to remain considered for an assignment, you are advised to re-apply to new calls when they are published.

Notes

Interns are ideally placed at FAO offices or project locations within their country of residency, meaning international relocation may not be required. The program offers a wide chance for young and talented individuals to work globally and contribute to addressing issues related to food security and sustainable development. It provides an opportunity to meet people with diverse thoughts and skills and to exhibit your abilities in your field of interest through participation in various projects.
